How a mobile visit works

From the call to driving away

  1. 1

    Call or send the form

Say what broke and give the vehicle’s year, make and model. If you are filing a claim, have your insurance details to hand.

  2. 2

The glass is checked by VIN

Impex verifies the part against the vehicle identification number before booking, so the glass that arrives fits your car and its sensors.

  3. 3

    The work comes to you

The technician works at your home, workplace or lot in Fayetteville. Park where there is room to open the doors on both sides.

  4. 4

    Calibration and cure

If the windshield carries a camera, it is calibrated before you leave. Then the adhesive cures; Impex says most customers are back on the road within two hours.

  5. 5

    Aftercare

For 24 hours after a new windshield, skip the car wash and do not slam the doors, so the bond can set.

Repair or replace

Chip, crack or new windshield: how the damage decides

Most windshield damage in Fayetteville starts the same way: a stone thrown up by a truck on I-95, by a work site off the All American Freeway, or by a car ahead on the Outer Loop. What happens next depends on three things: how big the break is, what shape it is, and where it sits on the glass.

Impex’s own rule is simple: a repair may be possible when the damage is small, shallow and away from the edges of the glass. Damage that is large, deep or reaches the edge calls for a new windshield, because the glass is part of how the vehicle protects you and how its camera sees the road.

What you seeUsuallyWhy
A chip smaller than a quarterRepairImpex’s rule of thumb for chips; filling it stops it spreading
A single crack up to 6 inchesOften repairROLAGS calls 6 inches or less a short crack
A single crack up to 14 inchesSometimes repairROLAGS: single line cracks up to 14 inches are repairable
A crack that runs to the edgeUsually replaceEdge damage weakens the glass where it is bonded
Damage in the driver’s line of sightUsually replaceA repair can leave a mark where you need to see clearly

ROLAGS is the Repair of Laminated Automotive Glass Standard. It says stone breaks up to two inches across and single line cracks up to 14 inches are repairable. Those are the outer limits of the standard, not a promise for your windshield: the technician looks at the break before deciding. Insurance in NC

How a glass claim usually works in North Carolina

Glass damage is normally a comprehensive claim. The North Carolina Department of Insurance lists breakage of glass and missiles or falling objects among the losses comprehensive coverage pays for, and says it pays the cost of repair less any deductible.

  • There is no zero-deductible glass law in North Carolina. Your comprehensive deductible applies unless your policy says otherwise. Some policies include full glass coverage, so check yours.
  • You choose the shop. Under G.S. 58-3-180 a policy covering damage to a motor vehicle must let you select the repair service, and the insurer pays the same whichever you choose.
  • No SDIP points. A comprehensive glass claim is not an at-fault accident, so it adds no Safe Driver Incentive Plan points. Your insurer may still look at how often you file claims.

Impex works with all major insurance providers and can handle the claim with your insurer. The whole process, with the questions to ask, is on the insurance and glass claims page.

NC law

What North Carolina’s inspection checks

Window tint

Since December 1, 2025, tint is no longer checked at the safety inspection (S.L. 2025-47), but the tint limits in G.S. 20-127 still apply on the road: 35 percent light transmission on most windows, and on the windshield only a strip along the top.

North Carolina’s annual safety inspection (G.S. 20-183.3) checks your wipers, not the glass itself. The statute lists windshield wipers as required by G.S. 20-127(a), which says a vehicle with a windshield must have a wiper in good working order to clear rain and other matter in front of the driver.

No North Carolina statute or inspection rule sets a crack size. That does not make a crack harmless: a crack in your line of sight is still a safety problem, and the windshield is part of the restraint system that helps airbags deploy as designed. G.S. 20-135 also requires safety glass wherever glass is used in the doors, windows and windshield of a vehicle made on or after January 1, 1936.

Questions

Fayetteville auto glass questions

Is Fayetteville Auto Glass a local shop?

Fayetteville Auto Glass is Impex Auto Glass serving Fayetteville, NC. Impex has no shop in Fayetteville: its shops are in Greensboro and Charlotte, and in Fayetteville the work is done by mobile service at your home, workplace or lot. Read more about Impex.

Do I get a free windshield replacement in NC?

Not by law. North Carolina has no zero-deductible glass law, so your comprehensive deductible applies unless your policy includes full glass coverage. If your deductible is higher than the cost of the job, you may simply pay for it yourself. The insurance and glass claims page explains how to check.

Can a 12 inch crack in a windshield be repaired?

Sometimes. The ROLAGS repair standard says single line cracks up to 14 inches are repairable, so 12 inches is inside its limit. Whether yours can be repaired depends on where it runs: a crack that reaches the edge or crosses the driver’s line of sight usually means a new windshield.

How much does it cost to replace a windshield in Fayetteville, NC?

It depends on the vehicle: the glass, whether it carries a camera or sensors, and whether calibration is needed. Impex checks the part by VIN and gives a quote that it says is fully inclusive, with no delivery, fuel or disposal fees. With insurance, what you pay is usually your comprehensive deductible.

How long does a windshield replacement take?

Impex says most windshield replacements take about one hour, plus a short curing period, and that most customers are back on the road within two hours. Calibrating a camera adds 30 minutes to 2 hours, depending on the vehicle.

Does a new windshield need camera calibration?

If the vehicle has a forward camera behind the windshield for lane keeping or collision braking, usually yes. I-CAR lists removing the windshield among the events that may require aiming the camera. Impex performs the calibration on site after the replacement. See ADAS calibration.

Will a glass claim raise my insurance?

A comprehensive glass claim is not an at-fault accident, so it does not add SDIP insurance points in North Carolina. Your insurer may still look at how often you file claims, so it is worth asking your agent.

Can the mobile service work on Fort Bragg?

This site does not offer work on the installation. The mobile service works at homes and workplaces off post in Fayetteville, Spring Lake, Hope Mills and the towns around. See the Fort Bragg windshield replacement page.
